Memory Pairs: a guide for your next round

Open Memory Pairs, check the instructions and begin a round. Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Use the example below to understand a decision. Begin with the solo mode shown on the page. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Give this approach a try

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Notice the feedback after each input.

Understand the aim

Match all eight pairs. Your result is the number of two-card turns used. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Notice how the game responds to your input.

Work through the instructions

  1. Turn over any face-down card.
  2. Choose a second card. Equal symbols stay visible.
  3. Unequal cards turn back after a short pause.
  4. Continue until every pair is visible.

Getting comfortable with the controls

Use the on-screen controls with a mouse or touch. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.

One way to understand the rules

Seeing a star at the top left and another star in the bottom row gives you a matching pair on a later turn. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Verify the rule before continuing.

Check this before moving on

You cannot turn a third card while a mismatched pair is still being shown. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
